I wish elders in our families understood the importance of therapy to work out your shit. To understand their role in why relationships sour to the point of no contact. Why people set up and enforce boundaries.
Yes! And my wish for the ones that go is they would actually use therapy for understanding their role, and not just to validate their feelings that they were wronged.
My mom went to therapy (for other reasons) and stopped when she “graduated” because she doesn’t understand therapy is a process, not a cure. We keep begging her to go back. My dad is in therapy but he essentially weaponizes everything as a form of manipulation so it’s not really helping much.
Thank you for sharing. I have always thought my bond with my sisters is so strong because of our estrangement from our mom. If you suffer through that kind of trauma together, I think it’s difficult to break.

I agree. Trauma bonds tend to be seen in a negative light, but in this context, it feels more like a positive.
